Sacred Postpartum Ceremonies

Closing The Bones

Postpartum rite-of-passage ceremonies invoke the ceremonial closure of your pelvic bones, and help you bring your sacred energy back to yourself where it is most needed.

Cross-Cultural Threads

Postpartum ceremonies have existed across various cultures for thousands of years to hold sacred, ceremonial space for new mothers within circles of women to honor this important life transition.

Several cultures that honor this rite of passage tradition include Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, Ancestral European traditions (Le Soin Des Matrons), and Morocco.

This cross-cultural thread points to the perennial truth of the sacredness of mothers, especially during the postpartum period, and women's need for reverence, acknowledgement, and closure to holistically facilitate and honor this transition.

Inward

Pregnancy is a time in which a woman's energy expands outward physically, psycho-emotionally, and spiritually in relation to baby, partner, and community. After birth, the postpartum period is a natural and necessary time for bringing the mother's energy back inward to herself so that she can be physically and energetically grounded, nourished, and contained as she nourishes her baby.

This Rite of Passage Ceremony Includes

Warming Modalities and Wrapping/Closing of the Hips to Encourage:

Connection Self-to-Self
encouraging the mother to come back to
her somatic sense of awareness

Closing of The Pelvic Bones
(particularly the pubic symphysis and sacroiliac joints)

Helping the Connective Tissues and Abdominal Muscles
to come into closer proximity at the linea alba (the connective tissue line that separates the left and right rectus abdominis muscle)

For bereaved mothers or mothers who are struggling in the postpartum period, this can be an experience of deep healing.

“I don't know how I would have handled that without her.”

I've had many types of treatments in my life, Allison's are the most beautiful, heart-felt and medicinal. I feel so safe and connected to her, she is of the easiest people to love… It's such a labor of love for her; her dharmic potency… I just let her see my space and we decide which area would be best for her to set-up in and she brings everything in and sets herself up. Her massage table, oil warmer, hot towel warmer... linens, bunches of flowers. There's usually a tea or warm beverage she makes for me, lots of specialty things I wouldn’t ever think to ask for or do myself.

Allison is expert at caring for women, it's just pure luxurious nourishing care from the moment she entered my house. When I was pregnant she helped me so much and then when my daughter Sarah was a tiny baby I would nurse or hold Sarah as she slept, while Allison worked on me. I felt like she was holding me as I was holding Sarah. It's a special experience to be able to fall asleep on the massage table or feed my baby during treatment - all in the privacy and safety of my own bedroom. Sarah was glued to me as an infant, and I had so much back pain after her birth. I don't know how I would have handled that without Allison. It was just such a treasured, wonderful experience for me and a relationship I really value.
